University of Wollongong forward Jack Reilly scored three tries in the latest round of the Australian University Rugby Championship, putting the local college program on the national radar this week.

The result arrives as winter university fixtures intensify across New South Wales, with selectors from state pathways watching performances ahead of the August national university games in Sydney. Reilly’s output builds on the side’s improved standing after finishing fifth in last year’s standings.

Local roots fuel the run

Reilly trains at the University of Wollongong’s Northfields Avenue campus grounds and plays home matches at WIN Stadium in central Wollongong. The program also uses facilities at Fairy Meadow Sports Complex for mid-week sessions, allowing players from surrounding suburbs to balance study loads with training blocks that start at 6am most weekdays.

Coaches credit the setup for keeping the squad together during semester breaks, when many students remain in the Illawarra rather than travelling back to regional homes.

Reilly, a second-year engineering student, logged 42 minutes per game across the opening four rounds, completing 87 percent of his carries according to competition statistics released on July 9.

Next fixtures and ticket details

The side travels to Newcastle for a July 18 clash before returning to Wollongong for a July 25 home game against the University of Sydney. General admission tickets cost $18 at the gate or $15 when bought online through the university sports office before July 15. Supporters can also follow live updates on the UOW Sport social channels, which post match highlights within an hour of the final whistle.

Local fans planning to attend are advised to arrive early for parking at WIN Stadium, as spaces near the eastern stand fill quickly on match days.
