The Keira High School boys 4x100m relay team recorded a 42.87-second time at the Illawarra regional carnival on 4 July 2026. That mark leads all NSW high school squads this season and places the group first in qualifying for the state championships at Homebush in mid-August.
The result arrives during a packed July schedule when schools across the Illawarra finalise entries for the NSW Combined High Schools meet. Regional coaches now view the Keira squad as the benchmark for sprint programs preparing for national selection trials later this year.
Daily sessions run at Beaton Park Leisure Centre in North Wollongong and on the University of Wollongong oval in Gwynneville. The squad also uses the indoor track at the Wollongong Sports and Entertainment Centre for speed work when coastal winds pick up. These venues sit within a 10-minute drive of the school on Lysaght Street in Fairy Meadow.
Keira athletes have shaved 0.82 seconds off their opening relay time since the first trial on 16 May 2026. Parents pay a $165 seasonal fee that covers entry to four regional meets plus transport to the state titles. The program draws 28 boys across years 9 to 12, with four named in the current A relay.
Coaches will hold final time trials at Beaton Park on 18 July before locking the lineup. Families can register additional support at the Keira High sports office by 25 July to secure bus places for the trip to Sydney. The squad plans two more tune-up sessions at the university oval before the state meet opens.
