Best Beaches in Wollongong: North Beach, City Beach and the Illawarra Coast

Wollongong has more than 17 beaches stretching along the Illawarra coast, making it one of the most beach-rich cities in New South Wales. City Beach and North Beach in the city centre are the most accessible, with North Wollongong Beach at the harbour entry popular with learner surfers. Wollongong's ocean pools, including Wollongong City Pool (heritage listed) and the pools at Towradgi, Bulli and Austinmer north of the city, are free to use and a beloved feature of the coastal walk. The northern beaches from Thirroul to Stanwell Park have a quieter character and are popular with those who prefer a less crowded setting. A cycling and walking path connects several beaches along the northern corridor.
