Best Brunch and Cafes in Wollongong: Morning Spots on the Illawarra

Wollongong's cafe scene has improved considerably over the past several years, with a concentration of quality independents in the CBD Crown Street area, Fairy Meadow's Princes Highway strip and the northern beach suburbs of Thirroul and Austinmer. The Crown Street pedestrian mall precinct has the highest concentration of cafe options for city-centre workers and weekend visitors. Thirroul village, 20 minutes north, has developed a strong local cafe culture particularly popular on weekend mornings with day-trippers from Sydney. Helensburgh and the escarpment villages have smaller but characterful options. The University of Wollongong's proximity to the inner suburbs supports a solid specialty coffee culture. Weekend sittings at the more popular spots attract queues; arriving early or checking bookings availability is wise.
