Wollongong City Council maintains an extensive network of public sporting facilities that punches well above its weight for a regional city. The flagship precinct is Beaton Park in Figtree, which houses an aquatic centre, athletics track, tennis courts, sports fields and indoor sporting spaces all in one location. Beaton Park is the go-to destination for residents wanting a one-stop sporting venue, and the aquatic centre operates year-round for lap swimming, squad programs and recreational use. The athletics track at Beaton Park is suitable for both training and sanctioned competition.
WIN Stadium on the Wollongong foreshore is the city's premier outdoor sporting venue. The ground hosts NRL matches for St George Illawarra Dragons as well as rugby union, soccer and other major events. Its foreshore position, just steps from the water, makes it one of the most scenically situated sporting venues in Australia.
