The Wollongong City Centre Planning Review is open for community feedback until Monday 6 July 2026. A Gateway Determination issued on 16 March 2026 allowed the proposal to proceed to public exhibition. This process covers planning changes that shape future infrastructure and services in central Wollongong.
Several recent consultation periods have addressed related planning matters across the city. These include reviews of health facilities, transport connections and urban renewal projects. Each process gathers resident input on how services and infrastructure may develop in coming years.
Health precinct and station planning
The Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy and Station Masterplan public consultation period ended on 11 June 2025. An Engagement Outcomes Report from 2024 consultations now guides the draft strategy. These documents focus on the layout of health services and transport links near the city centre.
Transport and renewal consultations
Community consultation for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Transport Plan ran from January to February 2026. A session was held at Wollongong Crown Street Markets on Friday 23 January 2026. In Gwynneville, preliminary consultation occurred in July and August 2024, followed by public exhibition of a Planning Proposal from March to May 2025. Rezoning decisions remain pending approval.
These planning exercises examine how transport routes, health facilities and housing zones connect to daily services and employment access. Feedback periods allow residents to note practical effects on travel times, access to medical care and local job locations.
Feedback on the revised Community Engagement Strategy was requested by Monday 15 May 2023 to update council methods for future consultations. The current city centre review continues this approach to gathering input on infrastructure proposals.
Next steps involve processing submissions received during the open periods. The government has stated that exhibited proposals will guide subsequent planning decisions once feedback is reviewed.
