Households in suburbs such as Port Kembla, Warrawong and Cringila will receive notices about new substation upgrades scheduled between July 2027 and December 2028. These works are projected to support additional renewable generation capacity that the government says will stabilise wholesale electricity prices for local users by 2029. Workers previously employed in heavy manufacturing can access retraining places funded through the same policy, with the first intake expected in the second half of 2027.
Local housing supply reforms linked to the zone policy will release development sites near the port for worker accommodation.
